It is really interesting how museums and archives market their objects and what they choose.

I am not sure I like the pinkish hessian background, but somehow it works and makes a rather beautiful image.

Museum/Artist postcards

Popped into the Wellcome on the way home from Brighton and saw this amazing exhibition by Alice Anderson.
Memory Movement Memory Objects "Geometries" 64 shapes variable dimensions, copper wire 2014.
She had wrapped a large selection of objects, small and large in copper wire..from a pair of glasses to a stair case.

Museum postcards

I don't think I like this type of museum postcard...it is like they are setting up a scene..objects spilling out of a pot....I would rather see the objects more clearly.

Museum postcards.

 I found this postcard in an Oxfam shop in Chester. I thought this was an unusual way of displaying a collection...but I imagine they are trying to give a feeling of the scale of the number objects in the hoard.
The Museum postcard is, in a way, the polar opposite of what I like about museums, as it gives you the edited highlights as chosen by the curators for you to forever associate the museum with. Where as I like the chance to rummage in the back rooms to pick out the things I deem important..so why am I so interested in the Museum Postcard? Maybe because I want to make my own sets for each museum....and for my own collection..and I need to study how the experts do it.

 Just back from a very windy trip to Berlin, where we spent a lot of time in Museums.

I don't want to overload this site with museum cards..but I am interested in what objects get chosen to be put on the limited selection of cards in the Museum shop and how the objects are photographed.

Postcard from the Wellcome Collection

"Lead Mortuary Crosses" from the Wellcome Collection.
The Mary Greg Collection also had one of these on a wooden board, with a note saying it was from the time of the Black Death.
We popped in the Wellcome Collection on our way back from Brighton, I used to visit this amazing collection when I was at the RCA, as it was above the science museum,  I do love looking at the objects, but I don"t really like thinking what many of the tools were used for.
